Through the seamless integration of its technologies into an easy to use, low cost molecular diagnostic solution. ERBA Molecular has developed a range of molecular diagnostic solutions targeting a variety of different market segments including food safety, veterinary, life sciences and clinical diagnostics.  

Food Pathogen testing

In collaboration with one of its commercial partners, 3M™, ERBA Molecular has successfully developed a menu of assays for all the major food pathogen and can now deliver critical food safety results 24-48 hours faster than routine culture based microbiological methods. For food pathogen testing ERBA Molecular has exclusively partnered with 3M™ and deploys the BART technology for molecular testing in food, beverages and feed for animals, in its latest innovation, the 3M™ Molecular Detection System.

Food spoilage

After food pathogen testing, food spoilage organisms are viewed as the next most important category to test for. ERBA Molecular can provide a rapid, robust and easy to use solution for the identification of these organisms. Spoilage organisms vary by sector; diary, meat and prepared foods all have shelf life issues associated with this. It is estimated that between 30-50% of all microbiology testing conducted in the food sector is on spoilage organisms.

GMO

A number of countries and regions have strict regulations against the import of unapproved genetically modified organisms (GMO) crops. Labelling of food stuffs containing above a regulator set threshold is mandatory in the European Union, Japan, China, Korea, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. In The USA and Canada labelling is voluntary. The testing market for GMOs is expected to rise towards the $100 million.

Food authenticity

There is growing concern around the authenticity or provenance of food within the supply chain. ERBA Molecular technology allows a ‘point of care’ solution to testing both raw material and finished products as part of an end-to-end solution.
